Lucky explores the darker, often romanticized reality of the Old West. A fallen cowboy lies lifeless across the back of his horse, a haunting reminder of the danger, violence, and uncertainty that came with life on the frontier. Yet at the center of the painting is also a story of companionship. A cowboy’s horse was more than transportation it was his partner, his livelihood, and often his most loyal companion.

The horse carrying its rider even after death gives the piece a sense of devotion and sorrow, reflecting a bond that remained through the very end. Against the vivid turquoise and red, the somber subject creates a striking contrast between the legend of the West and the harsh reality behind it. The title Lucky carries a touch of irony, questioning just how much luck it took to survive the unforgiving frontier.
